Cameras in Conservation
Share your knowledge and experiences with cameras
The research aims to identify the materials and types of degradation found in photographic cameras collections. As a part of this research, you are invited to take part in a questionnaire that aims to better understand cameras and their role in conservation, as well as how they are perceived as cultural heritage objects
The only requirement for taking part is that you are working, studying, or volunteering in the cultural heritage sector and/or cultural materials conservation. You can make a significant contribution to the success of the study by sharing your knowledge and experiences-you do not need to be an expert in the conservation of cameras to contribute.
The survey is divided into sections and aims to investigate:
- awareness of photographic cameras as cultural heritage objects
- the level of general knowledge across the cultural heritage sector about the materials in cameras
- current strategies employed by organisations to manage photographic camera collections.
This research project has been approved by the Human Research Ethics Committee of The University of Melbourne (Ethics ID number: 2056531.1) The online questionnaire is expected to take between 5 and 20 minutes to complete depending on your responses and past level of involvement with cameras in collections. Your participation is voluntary, and your responses will be confidential. While the questionnaire is in English feel free to contribute free text responses in your chosen language.
To participate please click on this link Cameras in conservation survey and feel free to share this link with others who you may think will be interested.
If you do not wish to participate for any reason, take 30 seconds to click through to the survey and indicate this by selecting the 'disagree' button-this will provide vital information on why people don't participate in surveys and insight into refusals versus survey non-response.
The questionnaire will remain open until 29th October 2021.
